Congo
The Republic of the Congo, located in Western Africa, is a former French colony. The economy of the country relies heavily on petroleum production, forestry and agriculture. The chief subsistence crops of the Republic of the Congo are cassava, rice, corn, vegetables, sugarcane, cocoa, coffee, peanuts, palm products and tobacco. The petroleum sector is considered to be the chief revenue generator. Mineral resources include oil, diamonds, potash, lead, zinc, uranium, copper, phosphates and natural gas. Main industries are petroleum extraction, cement kilning, lumbering, brewing, sugar milling, palm oil, soap and cigarette making. |
